It's a beautiful flower but your comment that you have a black thumb makes me worry.

ORchids need different care than normal houseplants

Don't put them in normal potting soil, they need to grow in orchid bark

do NOT water it too much. You need to let the potting medium dry out completely between waterings. The orchid roots have a special coating on them that act like sponges. They absorb the water and then, if the stuff they're growing in doesn't dry out, the roots rot. Fast.

You need to provide it humidity. To do this without humidifying your home, put a deep pan full up large pebbles under its pot and fill that pan with water but do NOT allow the water to cover the pebbles. you don't want the pot sitting in water. As the water in the pan evaporates, it'll humidify the air around the orchid.

You need to provide it light but no afternoon sun and more bright and filtered light, not direct light

there are a lot more tips on my website at http://indoororchidgardening.com if you want to read them.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02909075290121127151noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3439316272064745899.post-86310157286577234072010-07-29T12:17:21.719-05:002010-07-29T12:17:21.719-05:00How pretty, Kate!
