Hoarders Anonymous

Have you ever seen the show Hoarders?  It's not pretty...

(Let me be very clear that this picture is NOT MY HOUSE!)
Picture courtesy of A&E.  (This is not my house!)
How about the show Animal Hoarders?  If you are trying to lose weight, just watch Animal Hoarders while you eat,  you'll immediately lose your appetite, ewwwww...  but this is a whole other post.

Anywhoo, back to Hoarders, my husband teases me that he's going to call the producers of Hoarders and get them to do an "intervention" for me.  Really funny honey, ha ha ha.

I must admit that I am a bit of a pack-rat keeper of things that I might need someday and there are definitely some rooms in our house that could use some organizing and decluttering.  But, I am by no means worthy of a whole Hoarders show... they might be able to do a little snipet of my decorations and home-staging supply corner in the basement but  I definitely could not fill an episode. Geesh! ;)

But seriously, we do have too much stuff.  So, like everyone else at this time of the year, we (hubby is helping by throwing stuff out when I'm not looking ;) have started a major decluttering/organization/rubbish reduction campaign.

In my blogging time I have not been blogging but going through all the wonderful organizing ideas in blogland and trying to come up with some of my own.  (I've also been working on some new decorating jobs, WooHoo!)

I've got some projects in the works that I will be sharing soon for all of my fellow "hoarders" out there. ;)

Come back late tonight where I'll be introducing my fun new sponsor at my weekly Flaunt it Friday party!

  1. OMG, I'm SO glad that isn't your house, because before I read the photo caption, I was reading your post & thought "ooohhh, no.........someone is in denial. Her husband is right." To my credit, I didn't notice the tiny caption because my eyes couldn't stop staring at the nightmare that is that photo!

  2. lways think "I might need this for something later" and sometimes I do need it for something later....but usually I don't. Now here comes the some what morbid part to my new years de-cluttering, I have been going through my things and each one I pick up and I think to myself "Is this something someday when I die my kids might want or will they just think oh my gosh why did mom keep all this crap?" If I think it isn't worthy of passing down and it is something I don't even look at every single day, I either toss it or list it for sale.

  3. @Lacey, I added a new large caption before the picture so people will be sure this is NOT my house! :) Thanks for the comment.

@Vintage Farmhouse, I'm not at that stage of my life but that is probably really smart. I can remember my parents and in-laws going through some of my grandparent's homes and it was a painful process. You are saving your kids the trouble. :)

  4. Oh yeah--My attic looks like a home accessory store threw up in there. I really do purge a couple of times a year--but it doesn't look like it. Because YOU NEVER KNOW! It might work in my next house! (and we have NO plans of moving any time soon!)

  5. I have this fear that I will end up on that show. Not that my house is anything remotely like that picture... thank God. I have a room in my basement that has a closet inside of it, and needless to say I never want anyone to go in there because I might meet the criteria to be on the show. I'm expecting our fourth child in March and I'm determined to clean out those rooms for good. Please put up organizing ideas because I'm sure everything will not be garbage.

  6. I come from a long line of pack-rats... not extreme dirty hoarders... but downright TOO MUCH STUFF. So about 10 years ago I started tossing stuff, it's sooo hard. But man was it worth it!

I have found with home decor, the only way to "shop your home" for some frugal re-dos is to actually HAVE stuff. There have been things I've regretted throwing out :(

Anyhoo... organization is my main goal this year. We moved cross country and I haven't been able to get back to being as organized as I was, but I'm sick and tired of wasting time looking for things!!

So yah, I've been spending tons of time browsing the blogosphere for ideas... perfect time of year for it!

  7. I have only seen the show a couple of times and just about died! I have a lot of stuff but nothing close to that!! I hope you are enjoying your cleaning out and organizing, it does feel kind of good to free up some space. :)

  8. LOL- I can't watch that show. It freaks me out. I jump up and start scrubbing everything in the house. Growing up hearing the phrase "Pack-rat" , having a mother and grandmother that kept an immaculate home I have anxiety attacks watching that show. My family borders on the opposite end of the spectrum....neat freak and clean freak... lol Watch that'll be the made for tv series. ha!

  11. Yes ,I have a problem ,it is not a case of needing more storage (for me anyway) because the more I have the more I would fill ,my thing is books and magazines I just cannot bear to throw them out. I will keep trying.

  12. I am so with you! Nate Bekus had a hoarding expert on who listed the types of hoarders and I swear I fit into three of the categories (awesome!) But I'm working on it int he new year too! Good luck with your organizing! If you figure out how to organize the whole laundry process I would love to hear about it! ;)

  13. I watch those shows out of morbid curiosity. Seriously, those shows make me want to get up and clean something!!!

Decluttering is an ongoing process. We've done a lot, but just when I think we can't find more to purge, we're starting another giveaway pile! Where does it come from!?
