Hey friends! Thanks for all the great feedback about my client kitchen remodel. I hope you'll like the living room makeover too.
As you can see from the picture above, my clients had a good sized family room with a huge window, but it seemed dark and crowded. They wanted to make better use of the space and update the decor so that it would flow from their newly remodeled kitchen.
The living room was not remodeled. It did get the beautiful wide-planked wood floors like the kitchen and some new paint. The main thing in here was new furniture and decor.
They wanted a big comfy sectional, so we started with that. The walls are a very pale green so that was the main accent color. We used plantation shutters to keep the room light and bright when they want it to be. They can shut out the sun in the summer when they get some really strong sun light (and heat) through the large windows in the afternoon.
Behind the sectional there was kind of an odd space between the back of the sectional and the half wall to the kitchen. We filled it with this...
I am so in love with that chest of drawers and mirror. The color of the chest is green with hints of turquoise and is so perfect for the room. It was a great way to add an understated splash of color.
I don't usually suggest putting a tv over a fireplace, just my personal design preference. But, Mr. Client had his heart set on the tv over the fireplace. Because the tv is so large, this was a good place for it in this room. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. In this home, it worked.
A shot of the seating area across from the sectional.
And here's a shot of the whole room... I think we succeeded in brightening it up!

ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS transformation of the room! So bright and airy and clean looking. Looks so much larger and inviting too. I would have went with a bolder colorful rug too but this looks good and fits right in. I love the new arrangement too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a difference Kate - much more airy and inviting. Love that dresser/mirror vignette too. Another fantastic makeover!

It's beautiful! You are so talented. All I need is a set of keys, a good book, and I'll be cozy ;)
ReplyDeleteSo pretty. Can you share the info on that sectional? I am in the market for one and would love to check this one out. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe sectional was bought at a local furniture store but I believe it was a Broyhill. We picked the pieces to make it that particular size/shape. :)
DeleteI just love how the transformation went! It went from being such a cramped space to a large and airy living area. I also love how you were able to stick to a very clean and simple interior design theme that made the house very cohesive. It's so much better than the patchy feel of the old one. Kudos! :)
